Research on UV-curable Coating of Nano-SiO_2/Epoxy Acrylate

Abstract: This paper is concerned with UV-curable nano-hybrid coating. Instead of simply blending nano-particle with matrix resin , the coating were prepared by so called sol-gel process using tetrathoxysilan(TEOS) as precursor in the precence of UV curable epoxy acrylic resin.In order to improve the UV curing capability of epoxy acrylate resin ,epoxy acrylate resin was modified by maleic anhydred,as oligomer of UV curing coating.The result is that the modified epoxy acrylate resin had higher double-bond content and better UV curing rate to traditional epoxy acrylate oligomer made by traditional esterification, synthesis process of epoxy acrylate resin influences of catalyst, inhibitors, variety of acid value during experiment and time of UV-curingon the resin properties were discussed.SiO_2 gels are prepared by Sol-Gel processing. The effects on the hydrolysis and condensation rate of the gels are investigated, it include: effects of the ratio of water to TEOS are studied as well.Different catalyzing mode and concentration (the value of pH),temperature and the property of solvent,XRD indicated: silica size is 2nm. The effect of Silane coupling agent on the surface of nano silicon dioxide was also investigated,The infrared scheme have proved that -OH group was on the surface of the nano silicon dioxide and forms nano silicon dioxide with good dispersibility.The effect of content of SiO_2 on gel time and coatings' morphology were studied. Changes in pencil hardness, adhesion strength , impact strength and wear resistance with the content of SiO_2 were investigated. The effect of curing conditions on curing rate was also studied.
