Study on Chemical Components from Sunflower Leaves

Abstract: Sunflower(Helianthus annuus L.; Compositae) is well-known for its variety of secondary metabolites and biological activities especially allelopathic activity. For half century the chemical constitution of this plant and its bioactivities have been investigated by scholars, many novel bioactive compounds have been reported in recent years. In China however, few investigates have been carried out. Last year we firstly reported the chemical constituents from sunflower roots in domestic publication, and in this paper, the chemicals from cultivar sunflower leaves were further studied, and the progress in chemical components and pharmacological researches were overviewed.On the base of former studies, the dried leaves powder of sunflower leaves was extracted with methanol at room temperature, the combined extracts were concentrated in vacuo and then partitioned between CHCl_3—H_2O, the part of chloroform extracts was isolated by silicagel colum chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 colum chromatography, pre-TLC, recrystal etc. to obtain Eight compounds, the structures of which were elucidated by the spectroscopic analysis(MS, ~1HNMR, ~(13)CNMR) as(-)-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid(1), (6R, 10R)-6, 10, 14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone(2),α-tocopherol(3), dehydrocostus lactone(4), (-)-α-tocospirone(5), angeloygrandifloric acid(6), trans-phytol(7), 3(20)phytene-1, 2-diol(8). Compound 2, 5 and 8 were isolated from this plant for the first time.Compound 1, 6, 5, 7 were picked out for the germination bioassay test and found no effect on the germination and growth of lettuce, onion and radish…
